    Default My Fave Recipe - Pork Jalousie

    15g (1/2 oz) Butter
    225g (8oz) Leeks, rinsed & finely sliced
    350g (12oz) Pork mince
    150ml (1/4 pint) Half fat milk
    150ml (1/4 pint) Fresh chicken stock or chicken stock made with a stock cube
    1 x 5ml sp (1 tsp) Dried sage
    1 x 15ml sp (1 tbsp) Lemon juice, fresh or bottled
    1/2 x 5ml sp (1/2 tsp) Salt
    1/4 x 5ml sp (1/4 tsp) Freshly ground black pepper
    2 x 5ml sp (2 tsp) Cornflour
    4 x 15ml sp (4 tbsp) Double cream
    1 x 500g Packet puff pastry
    1 large egg yolk, beaten, to glaze (optional)

    ============================================

    Melt the butter in a shallow frying pan and saute the leeks over a medium heat for 5 minutes until slightly softened.

    Add the mince and stirring constantly cook for 5 mins until browned.

    Stir in the milk, chicken stock, sage, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

    Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 10 mins.

    In a small bowl mix the cornflour with 2 x 15ml sp (2 tbsp) water to form a smooth paste then stir in the cream.

    Stir this into the mince, simmer for a further 5 mins then remove from the heat and allow to cool for 20 mins.

    On a lightly floured surface roll out one portion of the pastry and trim to a rectangle measuring 30 x 18 cm (12 x 7 inches).

    Roll the second piece of pastry into a rectangle about 2.5cm (1 inch) longer an 2.5cm (1 inch) wider and cut slashes 2.5cm (1 inch) apart in the centre leaving a generous border of about 4cm (1 and a half inches) all around.

    Place the first piece of pastry on a lightly greased baking tray.

    Spoon the filling onto the centre and spread it evenly leaving a 2.5 cm (1 inch) border.

    Brush this with water then cover the filling with the other piece of pastry.

    Trim the edges, press to seal then crimp the edges.

    Preheat the oven to 220c/425f/gas mark 7.

    Brush the pastry with egg yolk if using and bake at the top of the oven for about 25 minutes until golden brown.

    Serve warm with buttered carrots (or whatever you fancy).

    ============================================

    Its just taken me ages to type this so I hope someone tries it! Its really nice I promise you.

    Fuck me, this is a recipe straight out of the 1985 school ciriculum. I remember making this and adding a layer of snot to my m8's when he went for a piss. Next day he said he and his family fukin loved it. I binned mine, it looked like a half digested ginsters pasty when it came out the oven.

    a guy a few years below me at school got suspended for a few days for crumbling hash into, muffin mixtures in HE.. apparently the girl he was working with normally took her food home to share with her 5 year old sister. some other girl in the class went to the teacher and said "I saw calum adding an extra ingredient.." and he's been called the muffin man every since

    ah i miss those days, always a pain in the arse though having to always be 5 minutes late out of the class to finish the washing up. and they'd make you take in 60p or something to pay for the ingredients, tight bastards

    Hurray! Good on you fraggle, its great to hear that somebody benefitted from about 15 minutes of me typing the recipe in. Although, this is now my only copy of it so if DF goes down the bog one day I'll never remember how to cook it (better take a printout methinks).

    Show us your appreciation by clicking the button near the top right of my post to add to my reputation (shameless plea for some K but what the hell!).

    Cheap, quick to cook, the meat is nice.

    Its just the thing when you want to look look like you have put some effort in.
