Attention LIFE at the MAGPIE CAFE

in my life i have often travelled to Whitby
and looked at the morons waiting even in the rain to
sample the delights of this fabulous restaurant

rick stein went there and said it was the best fish and chips he has ever eaten

so i wanted to go for the past couple of years, but every time i went the queses went down the stairs and were like 40 strong prob theese people would wait upto 2 hours or more

any how 2 weeks ago on the Saturday it was the "REGATTA" and we went past it at 12 ish and there wasnt anyone waiting, so i said to the wife lets go in and have a meal. So we did
Once we got to eat the food was the best i have eaten, in any Fish Restaurant.
I had Red Snapper, with a lemon and prawn sauce,
my Wife had a seafood "casserole"
    both was extreamly tasty

I reccommend this Restaurant if you can get in during your visit to WHITBY.

Anyhow from this i went to my local fish monger and bought 2 "pink snapper"
RED snapper was tooo expensive and probably tooo big for a serving for me and my wife

    then i purchased 100g of crabmeat (white+Brown)
    2 bunches of spring onions
1 lump of ginger (cost me 8p LOL)
1 small red chilli (seeded and scrapped to get rid of the pulp)
8 meduim/large tiger prawns (normal prawns can be used)

then chop up the chilli+spring onions+ginger into small minute pieces and fry in some alive oil for 5 minutes then add some vermouth(martinii) once bubbling leave aside

chop up the prawns into little slices
Then quickly fry in a little peanut oil the crabmeat and prawns, this has to be fast as its already cooked
then throw in the spring onions and chilli etc and add a squeze of half of a lemon
This should make like a paste which you then add to the snapper which has being cleaned by your fishmonger , add this to the cavity and put into a hot oven REG6 whatever on the gas mark
the fish then can be squissed with the other remaining half of lemon and seasalt added to the outside of the skin
let it bake in the oven for 10 mins each side
once flipped over then squeeze any remains of the lemon on the top of the fish and cook for a further 10 mins

    server on a plate
and it simply beats the snapper i had in whitby

Hope you can try this and please tell me what you think

    You know what mate?

All of your post could be converted to a prose.. a kind of poetry.. which would sell well in the John Betjeman stalls. It reads and sounds like pure poetry.

I'm gonna award k+ for that alone.

Every time I go to whitby I walk past this place but end up sat having a few beers outside the Dolphin with some fish and chips from the chippy opposite.

Next time i'm back in the Boro, i'll definately pop to Whitby for the day again and try this plaice (see what I did there!).

    Haddock and Chips for me
    We all make mistakes sometimes

like i said in an earlier thread about going back there,
After i came back i took some piccys
theese people would have been waiting at the foot of the stairs for at least an hour.
Once you actually get inside they will probably wait another hour
STILL the best fish i have ever eaten, and if i can get into this place at the top of the stairs then i will go back

My rents went last week and said it rocked, cost them 60 sobs though after the full courses and a bottle of wine.
