Default Windows Media streaming over the Web

    Hi Guys,

im used to opening up websites with embeded media content in them, and what normally happens is that the begin to buffer and then play. Now what is happening is that i get the windows media player logo in the player embeded in the website, and nothing happens - i can't click on the player in the webpage (everything is greyed out) and there is no buffering. Any ideas what i can do to get the streams going again?

I'm using windows XP and windows media player 10 (latest version after windows update - round about the same time this streaming issue came about)

    thanks

    Try this:

    Player Appears Disabled

There is a problem with some Windows machines where the player appears disabled... all the buttons are greyed out. This is because the Windows Media Player defaults to the wrong proxy settings. Follow these instructions to change these settings.

Open your Windows Media Player (Start Menu > Programs >Accessories > Entertainment or Multimedia > Windows Media Player)
Go to the View > Options Menu.
    Select the Advanced Tab
    Select Streaming Media (Windows Media)
Under Protocols > HTTP select "No Proxy"
Select Apply and OK. Close your Windows Media Player. Try to play the webcast again.

Thanks go to this site if it works.
