To get imigration in Oz as you say you have to either be a skilled worker, this includes nurses/doctors, police/fire service, teachers, builders etc(this is all from memory when i filled out my working visa a few years back) Alternatively you need to be married to a guy who has an australian nationality, so if you dont come under the 'skilled worker' catagory you can find yourself a tasty ozzy surfer and get yourself hitched. I think the other claus is if you have a baby when your out in australia you can get a permanant visa.

I dont think i would want to live out there all the time, maybe for a few years or so. Who do you apply to for a visa?

    go for it.
Not sure police and firefighters are classed as skilled workers in demand as you would have to apply once you are in aus for these jobs.

It did work on a points system but its worth looking out for an up to date government initatives as these come and go.

Even if you have a partner who is australian, immigration still need lots of evidence they even ask for christmas cards that have been sent to the two of you from previous years.
