Question Windows Server 2003 ... VPN over HTTP/IIS?

    Hi All,

    Here's my setup:

    INTERNET
    |
ROUTER (running NAT and only allowing incoming ports 21/22/80 and 443) 192.168.254.253
    |
    SMOOTHWALL 192.168.254.254
    ...|-Second NIC 192.168.0.254
    ......|
    ......LAN 192.168.0.*
    .........|- Windows 2003 - 192.168.0.1 - Running IIS

I would like to get a VPN connection to my 2003 server box so I was wondering if it was possible to create this over HTTP/HTTPS?

If so can anyone point me to some docs explaining how to do this.

If not can anyone recommend how to achieve what I want giving the port constraints I have?

Default Re: Windows Server 2003 ... VPN over HTTP/IIS?

vpn are not done via HTTP or HTTPS - VPN use a secure socket layer in order to encrypt traffic between the two sites.

a VPN is done from a firewall to firewall/client level and not to a workstation/server to server/workstation level (which is what you are trying to do).

I doubt your firewall will support VPN (will support VPN pass-thru but this is totally different)

in reality a VPN server is set up on firewall and anyone who wishes to use a VPN will need a client software.

your best option may be to stick a software firewall that supports VPN between the outside word and your network, create the necessatry VPN set up on the software firewall and you should be able to access your internal network this way...

VPN are a bastard to set-up but once all the shitty security is done its very useful.
