Thermal paste isn't cpu dependant. But make sure you don't use too much as this can be as bad/worse than not using enough.

Why would too much be a problem?

When you put the heatsink in place, wouldn't the squeeze out any excess?

If nature always takes the easiest route, what's easier...?
The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?

to much is a big problem because it stops the correct thermal conduction bettween cpu and heatsink therefore not transfering the cool air correctly from the fan...the best method of cooling for CPU after water cooling is a correclty applyed (dodgey spelling) thermal paste and heatsink.
and the idea is NOT to get the thermal paste to squeeze out as this can sometimes damage the surrounding areas depending on how much and what type of paste you use.
    hope this helps
