cheapest way to make my xbox1 wifi ?

i got a spare xbox crystal and am planning to put downstairs under the TV.

i want it to stream avi/divx and stuff from my pc upstairs over the network. (i dont know why i didnt do this years ago lol!)

the router is upstairs and there is no way that a wire can be fed to the xbox downstairs, so i thought maybe wifi?

whats the cheapest way for me to do this then? what wireless adapter do i need to buy?

i dont know about prices but if the wifi route turns out not to be any good (if you on 802.11b its not going to be fast enough i dont think but g and better should be fine) theres always the plugs that have a network connection on them and they use the houses wiring as a network and that would work for you and be easily up to the speed

im running a Netgear WGT624 wireless router, its running on b and g mode at the moment

have seen a few and like the look of the NETGEAR WGE111 54 Mbps Wireless 802.11g Game Adapter

just have to find one cheap!

there are a few ethernet wireless bridges, I use a belkin one, make sure you get a 802.11g one (or higher if your router supports it).

37.85 is the cheapest for mine according to froogle

although not cheap, you could get an asus-wl330g, this could be powered from the xbox via a xbox->female usb adaptor, saving you having to plug in the adaptor to a mains socket.

the review at gamezone says that it struggles with PC streaming but perfect for gaming

i really want it for pc streaming a si have a 360 for gaming

i also had a look at the asus aswell (ive been researching all day!), looks good also.

All the wireless game bridges I looked only supported WEP, pissed me off as I've always encrypted via WPA. In the end I got a Motorola WR850G router off ebay and flashed it with the DD-WRT firmware. Voila, a 5 port wireless bridge encrypted via WPA and all for just £25 and a bit of faffing around.

thanks beerman, i also encrypt in WPA, and from reading various forums, the NETGEAR WGE111 although not stated on websites does support WPA and works well, (its also in the manual)

so at the moment, its between the Zoom (posted above) and the NETGEAR WGE111.

ebuyers delivery simply sucks @ss to be honest, super saver delivery is like 2 weeks lol but HMv (of all places!) also sell the zoom for £44.99 delivered, and maybe i can pick it up instore?

thinking of getting one of these as well for my xbox just so I can stream divx stuff on my PC or copy files over etc. Let me know how it works out for ya Biggy and also how easy is it to set up and get running. I'm currently using a Netgear WGT834GT wireless modem/router. cheers

Looking at a pic of the back it only has one rj45 port. I would guess that you would connect it (wired) to a pc possibly through another router and set it up via the web interface. Once you have done that it should simply be a case of plugging it into the device you are looking to stream to and keeping your fingers crossed.

I have a linksys 54g access point along with a 11g router. They both have different network addresses.

it gets a bit tricky if you are using WEP or WPa encryption.

had mine set up in about 30mins

you use the wire to connect the bridge to the pc then you load up the smart wizard (on the supplied cd) which then you set up any WEP/WPA, ip addresses etc etc.

once set up i connected the bridge to my laptop to see if i could access the internet, at first it wouldnt, then i had to enter the mac address of my laptop in my router (mac filtering) then it worked!

did the same with my xbox1 mac address and now thats working fine aswell

nice one biggy ! Went to town to get one today and none of the shops have one in stock - typical ! So have ordered one online so hopefully it will be here in the next day or 2. Just bloody hope it's as easy to set up for me as it was for you m8 !

What's it like at streaming divx/xvid etc - any delays ? Also have you tried ftping anything to the xbox HD ?

my adaptor maxes out at around 20Mbit's (real world max on 802.11g) when ftp'ing, streaming is perfect on it

streaming is perfect mate, it found my share on my pc straight away like it should, i espeically like the youtube script in xbmc v2, awesome
