whats the easiest way just to change the display on the dash board, can i reporgram it via the diagnostic port, or do i need to reprogram the chip.

BMW mileage is stored not only in the dash but in the key aswell. You need special equipment to reprogram the key. PAsoft 1.36 should do the trick.

is it not possible to just read the chip with the st01 cable that is included with the digiprog and just enter a new value and reprogram it.

ive seen it done a few times and the guy didnt replace any chips. he just took the dash out reprogrammed it, took the thing out from behind the storage bit, and did the diagnostic thing, and the key automatically gets done.

is the light unit the one i have to take out from behind the storage box underneath the steering wheel on the drivers side?

    what is the ews then?

and what am i reprogramming when im using the diagnostically, im sure i clicked on lcm and then i pressed read, does that mean the lcm is changed when i did it via the port?

EWS = Electronic drive away protecion

    LCM = Lamp check module

The module behind the storage unit underneath the the steing wheel is the EWS module. As I said PAsoft is really the best tool do this job, you can read and write nearly every eeprom on the vehicle using this tool.

I have no real knowledge of the DigiProg2 as regards it suitability to correct an E46 BMW. I suggest you contact the manufacturer directly and either ask them or bring this thread to their attention so that they can reply with all the relevant technical details.

With the correct kit and by that I am referring to the only kit I have knowledge of which is a DashFixer, these vehicles are very easy indeed. Cluster is fairly straight forward after a strip down, LKM (up to 2004(ish)) is via OBD and thereafter is a 912 micro (fairly straightforward again), EWS is easy. Once all these are done the keys will take care of themselves once they are used in the vehicle.

If you do not want to go the easy way but want to go the 'cheap' way you will need:

    M35080 programmer
    912 programmer (2004- vehicles)
    68HC11 programmer

All of the above you can get from ETL.

    Hope this helps.

but keyscoob what am i suppose to do to the ews, thats the bit im stuck on. i dont mind getting it out. i wanna know how to program it the ews. and instructions?

i aint heard of the 912 micro either where is this located?

im not worried about the cluster that seems easy, just strip the dash find the chip and change the mileage via digiprog and the crocodile clip thing.

to be honest and please dont take this the wrong way but maybe you should try something your a little more confident in doing before try to alter a bmw.

its easy for keyscoob ,myself and any other member with experiance in dashwork to says it easy just do this or that but it seems from your reaction to our posts you at this time have limited experiance
your best option must be as keyscoob says contact your supplier and get specific insrtructions with regards to commit to the process with their equipment.

but dont worry we all started somewhere ......
