You need to boot the PC with the CD in the drive, then you can delete any partitions etc.. and do a fresh install

you probably just have to change the boot settings in the bios its probably set to boot from the hardrive.

Marcode he did have NT loaded when he brought his machine, he cleaned the H/D and tried loading XP but his machine was having none of it, He then loaded 98SE then loaded XP as new OS over the top... He has now cleaned the H/Drive again, and changed bios for the machine to boot from CD. But it's not working... will not load XP at all not even reaching the blue screen... Any idea what to do apart from throwing his pc out of window LOL.

    cheers..

When you turn the machine on, does it say anything like "press any key to boot from CD" if it does, smack a key and it should launch the setup program.

As diablos says, it might just be you need to set the CD-Rom / DVD-Rom to boot first so you can install.

As I see it, you're trying to [in some way] run XP rather than install it. You need to install to a fresh partition to get the boot record [on the HD] created correctly, and a proper boot.ini file created.

As said above, boot from the XP disk and install XP to a fresh partition, cleansed beforehand from that same CD.

power on the PC and hit delete to go in to the Bios and in one of the options look for boot sequence by the sounds of it the now it will be Floppy > Hard Drive > CD

    Change too

CD > Hard drive > Floppy so it loads the CD before the Hard Drive save and exit and that should start the fresh install off the CD

....and don't forget to press any key to boot from the cd, should be fine then. Also, when the pc reboots during the install, do not press anykey when it asks you after the 1st time or it will start from scratch again
