Help Trying to share wired *** bb connection.

Tried searching, but not found anything that works yet

Got a cable modem going into asus a7n8x, nvidia mcp nforce network socket. All works fine..

Plug into the other network socket(3com integrated fast ethernet) the cat 5 which goes to my T23 thinkpad.

Tried setting the 3com to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0/gateway from nvidia settings.

Lappy to 192.168.0.3/255.255.255.0/gateway addy from nvidia settings.

This usually results in pings from pc to laptop, but prevents internet on pc.

In either case, I can't get connected to the net on the laptop.

    Can anyone help??

    Cheers

I have stolen money from a DF member and a member of Disqworld. All my personal details including families details are on file and will be made public to everyone if I do not refund the money I stole or send the goods I promised. My name will be ravaged across the net and the consequences will be severe if I do not sort this fucking mess out.

    Tried that.

Says I muat select at least 2 lans connections that aren't being used by ics.

There's just the 2 connections showing on the pc, the one which goes to the modem(shared), and the 3com.

    Cheers

Seems a little complicated all of this.

I got around this in the past by plugging the modem into a Cable Router/Hub then all machines connected by Ethernet worked fine.

Another way I got around it before the router was to have two network cards in the Main PC, one has the modem the other the 2nd PC. I then started a shared connection on both machines with the settings on the main PC set to allow other computers to share the main machines connection.
    We all make mistakes sometimes

    Just tried that, techie.

Laptop and pc can ping each other ok(laptop assigns itself same ip as before anyway).

but as in the first attempt neither machine can now see the internet. had to put the lappy in standby to get back here.

    both firewalls were down btw.

    cheers

I don't see why people find ics complicated

    1. Plug cable modem into pc ethernet port 1, enable dhcp on this port
    2. Enable ics on ethernet port 1 (bring up network connections, right click on the ethernet port 1 adaptor->properties, click the advanced tab and tick allow other computers to use this internet connection and click ok)
    3. Enable dhcp on the other pc
    4. Plug cross over cable from ethernet port 2 on first pc to the ethernet port on other pc

voila it should just all work!
