ive been having a look all morning and most of the afternoon at getting a 360 to act as a hd capable media centre, cos i use xbmc all the time and would like hd support but im a bit confused, ive read the sticky that raptor posted about transcode 360 (and i got the nzb to convert xp pro to mce -cheers for that) and how it transcodes the xvid and divx in real time to wmv for the 360 to play but theres this

it says it does the same but doesnt mention anything about transcoding just real time streaming so i was wondering if it was the same thing as it says it needs mce and a network just like t360

the xbox1 has hd support, all you have to do is switch it to ntsc. Personally I use the 360 for streaming hd films but the xbox1 is still best for everything else

where do i change it to ntsc then in the ms dash or within xbmc? after all the reading about transcode360 i think im going to wait to get one till xbmc is on the 360 in the same way as it is on the xbox 1

what you need to do is this:

1. run a small app pal-ntsc switcher - available in usual places or by asking

2. connect the xbox1 to your tv using an xbox1 component cable
3. turn on 480,760,1080 in original xbox dashboard

I am still to be converted completely, to use 360 for streaming, as the xbox 1 does indeed do such a good job.

BUT the 360 does stream all, inc HD content with transcode. Dont bother with xploder as its a rip-off imo.

Transcode works well with hd wmv files and .ts files. Raptors is a good sticky here about using it with vmware, but basically I use nullpacket stripper to make one file from a load of .ts files and stream it via 360. (This on a mce pc, so no vmware needed).

Only down side is that forward scanning is a bit hit and miss via transcode.

cheers for the info m8 but considering what id be using it for i think im going to wait till theres a version or a way to have xbmc on the 360 it seems a little daft to change from a way that works as well as this does to start to transcode everything (and then delete the transcoded file??) just for a little higher resolution, (besides ive ordered one of those cable packs to make the xbox1 output to 720p in the link a little higher)
