    Excellent thread, very funny indeed!!!!

    It is not impossible to hear the police on your radio or freeview box these days. I have a Philips Midi System up in my bedroom that used to be the loft, had it converted a while back and I can get the Sussex Traffic Police coming through that all the time between stations. All other radios in the house are ok, it is just that one up in the loft. Sometimes very clear and other times quite fuzzy and hard to hear but you can definately hear them all the same.

    As regards to taping them and posting the result here well, I would not do that at all if I were you. It is illegal to listen to a police transmission, it IS illegal to pass on or indeed post on a forum like this what you have heard. The site owner here would be in the shit and so would you and I mean big fines for you both. Here is a quote from an official from the radiocommunications dept when I emailed them asking about airband scanners and the legality of them after a good debate on my own forum.....
    In short you can use a scanner to listen to anything broadcast for general reception, radio amateurs, CB, weather and navigation broadcasts. Unless you are a police officer or work in the emergency services you are not allowed to listen to their communications. You can only listen to other services if you have the permission of the sender.
    Just to re-iterate, do not post anything here that you may have heard or, worse, post a recording of it, you will get done!

    The police here in Sussex tried catching people who were listening in illegally by reporting UFO activity near Beachy Head just to the west of Easbourne. They even used massive coloured spotlights there and then lifted all the equipment from people turning up. This is a quote from the Brighton Argus (local paper) dated 12 Sptember '97;
    UFO TO EARTH: YOU'RE NICKED!
    Police set up an astonishing fake UFO sighting to trap people illegally tuning in to police radio.
    They shone coloured lights into the night sky above the downs and put out hoax messages about flying saucer reports.
    Car-loads turned up hoping to catch a glimps of aliens but instead, they found the boys in blue.
    Officers quizzed them about how they had heard of the UFO and about illegally using scanners to listen to police messages.
    Two disapointed UFO hunters had scanning equipment confiscated.
    Other sky watchers escaped the trap, tipped off by CB radio.
    To set their out of this world trap on the hills above Eastbourne, officers used 4 colour filter halogen lamps. Insp Martin Stevens admited the operation was bizarre but effective.
    He said "scanning is a serious matter and illegal. Police need to keep radio conversations secret. We may carry out more operations like the UFO sighting."
    Funny old world eh!

    Police airwave radio is encrypted and each handset has a decryptor, you will not be picking up 'police radio' you may however be getting securitas or whatever local office.

    Please try to look at the rules, so far 2 rubbish posts, this last one dredging up a 3 year old thread and no intro post!
    Post an intro in the appropriate section and check those rules please!!

    If that's what you want to call it, all means the same. Plus, it's funny to laugh at them.
