Just stumbled across this guys, probably BS but (translated to english from ze german on the site)

Microsoft will release its "Fall 2006 System Update" on 31.10.06 in Japan, according to a Famitsu report. The update is free and available to all Xbox Live members.

The update, among other things, improves Xbox Live Arcade and Marketplace functions, provides 1080p support, adds a start menu for XNA-developed games, adds HD-DVD player support and over 80 additional functions.

Microsoft is holding a press conference in Japan at which additional information will be provided.

Interesting. Unsure why they are only doing this in Japan on that day? Im not sure if this is true as other sites e.g xbox-scene would have picked it up.

Famitsu Japan is reporting that the Fall Update for the Xbox 360 will be released tomorrow, October 31 and this is supposed to be a worldwide simultaneous release.

An online translation of the announcement revealed several features previously announced by Microsoft, such as the addition of the XNA Game Studio support as well as 1080p video output and improvements to the Xbox Live Marketplace interface. Other new features include improved account and storage management, Windows Media streaming from flash as well as recordable optical media.

I am surprised this will cause zero downtime (I have heard of none).

They may have already put it in place during previous downtime and just update your dash when you connect to live tomorrow at somepoint.
I don't think this will do anything to hacked boxes to be honest to close to christmas to cause an upset. Nice shiny new live experience for chrimbo to get boxes in homes first then piss everyone off.

I want a web browser, email client and keyboard & mouse support. Then no more PC for me! I read on some xbox forum before that some fella had a beta version of this dash update and it had MSN explorer. Prob bollox though.

I wouldnt imagine the update + modded firmware = ban.

I would imagine it would go something like update + MS check LIVE network + modded firmware = ban.

personally I think it'll be update, discovered and recorded on live, and in about a week after everyones done the update....ban. They didn't ban you with xbox1 straight after an update, they waited, recorded and then mass banned.
