    Default newsgroup problems

i am using a unlimited newshosting account and am having problems maxing out my line.

if i open all 32 connections i am fine, but then i get loads of emails telling me that im breaking the rules,

if i set grabit to 8 connects i only get aprox 700kbs

whats the best way to obtain the full speed out of my line

    thanks

Try using four ports instead of 8 connections off the same port. You can use 3128, 7000, 8000 and 9000 and have 2 on each. I find I get faster speeds off other ports than the standard one assigned by most newsreaders. Don't ask me how to do it in Grabit though cos I don't use it but you should be able to do it easily enough.

    they've got a new site

in regards to speed there's not much you can do, I get around 1000-1500Kbytes/s from my bulldog connection which varies to newshosting (my max speed is around 1700Kbytes/s so I'm losing a bit), changing ports might help, or using multiple ports. In grabit create another server with a different port and select files randomly to download with that server.

I get 2600kbytes/s from my server to newshosting, so it's down to your isp and it's connectivity.

..and here's me thinking my 1500kb/s link was good - 2600!!

You must get a DVD-5 in about 28 minutes!

    I hate you.

I then have to download the files to my computer though, which is at 1700Kbytes/s. But I can leave stuff downloading on the server and come back a bit later to grab it all, fully par checked, so saves me having to deal with it, keeps my machine free to do other things instead of decoding or par checking files.

Yeah, I do a similar thing with a utility called Autounpack - it looks in my download folder and does all the fixing and decompressing of .rar files for me and then deletes the .rar files.

I just come home to the .iso images etc. - lovely.

just create another server and tell it to download bits with the other server by selecting the files in the queue, right click and select the server.
