Default can we get round blocked sites at coll/uni?

I'm doing a new media design degree course at college but the I.T guys have blocked lots of sites that could prove valuable to us. We are due to start researching podcasts but without access to sites like myspace and youtube etc this is going to be difficult. We have asked the I.T people if they could unblock certain sites but they are reluctant because of the younger students abusing the system. They have also blocked all known proxys.

Could anyone please suggest a work around or have knowledge of a proxy that they may not have blocked.

    Thanks!

at the college i attend we use firefox portable and it works a treat
I have stolen money from a DF member and a member of Disqworld. All my personal details including families details are on file and will be made public to everyone if I do not refund the money I stole or send the goods I promised. My name will be ravaged across the net and the consequences will be severe if I do not sort this fucking mess out.

hi thanks for that, tightvnc doesnt seem to install correctly, in the documentation it says a "tray icon" is installed to access properties, but on my system there seems to be no icon. is there something im missing ...lol.

portable firefox still needs a proxy of some kind, or else it wont connect

im about to try torpark today..i'l let you know how i get on.

    thanks again..

As long as you have tightVNC on your comp at home, you should be able to view it through a broswer using:

http://xx.xxx.xx.xx:5800/ (the xs being your IP at home.)

Although I think some of the other methods suggested in this thread might be more suitable.

ok guys thanks for your efforts, it appears our I.T guys have blocked pretty much everything related to proxys.I could never get Torpark to connect,Torrify's main site is even blocked....and so is Digital Forums for that matter...grrrr. I'll try logmein but i wont hold my breath, it appears theyve thought of everything....which makes me furious.

I'll give tightvnc a go with that idea.

thanks again and karma to you all..

firstly, your IT guys suck cock.

secondly.. forget all this VNC or logmein shite.. if your using XP machines check accessories>communications>remote desktop connection

if its there, (which it might not be if the IT guys are determined) when ur at home turn on remote desktop from system properties on the remote tab.

you should be able to log in to a home machine no problems.

    as for accessing df...
we have a slight problem with the urls and reverse dns, but anyway it means that we actually have another url..

    s105883597.websitehome.co.uk

try that when ur at uni...

if all of that doesnt work... try google and cached pages...
