    Default Minolta Z2

okay had this camera for a while now with no issues.....

Lately it has been playing up.... what its doing is when it zooms in and normally auto focus, its now after i zoom in focusing and then bluring again... so going slightly out of focus..... if i then zoom out it goes okay again.

This happens every time now and is causing problems for close up auto focus pictures.

Any ideas what the problem could be, if its costly or worth doing or do you think new camera time ?

    Thanks

Try it in bright daylight and see if it's the same. Auto-focus can struggle in low lighting conditions.

Hmm, it's possible it could be a problem with the camera, but even DSLR's can have trouble with the AF "hunting" for focus in poor light or with a tricky subject, so it's difficult to say for definite what the exact cause may be.

How would you compare this camera to the fuji S5200..... would you get rid of the Z2 for a fuji ?

update.... batteries went dead and just replaced them and noticed the camera is now performing perfectly.... it was running slow and had the focus issues etc..........

I also got outside today in 'proper' daylight and the camera had no focus problems..... so it was definately the low light and battery low problem...

Thanks............. although question about the fuji replacing this one still stands as i like what i have read about the fuji......

How much would you reccomend trying to sell the Z2 for.... it will include asst, box, camera case, memory card ... 512mb i think....

Any ideas on price please and comparison to fuji.

Looking at a side by side comparison, LINK, they're pretty evenly matched and so personally I wouldn't get rid of the Z2 for a S5200 (or S5600 as it is in the UK) as there's not really going to be any benefit in doing so.

The next step up is really a DSLR. Anything else is going to be pretty much just a sideways move.

You really won't find much difference between the 2. I had an Olympus C something or other that used a beam of red light to focus with in low light, the results were very good, so maybe a camera with that feature would be worth considering. I'm just not sure what it's called, Slarti or someone will no doubt know.
