I had a few interested Df'ers that didn't want to pay the full £400 asking price. Those people might be interested that it is now on ebay (under Mr DG's name).

99p start and no reserve. So you might get it cheaper than £400. Good luck!

You should move this and we can guess what its gonna go for, I reckon 700 quid!!!

I cant believe the bad timing of this. I have always wanted one but so near to xmas and the fact im moving house has prevented me from buying it. I hope you get a fortune for it dirtygirl as you really deserve it for a job done well.

Well, I must confess i am surprised how popular it has been in the first 24 hours!

Good idea SiE... moved to ebay section.

Thanks guys for your kind comments. I actually wrote the ad in ebay (but it is Mr DG's account and he will be doing the actual trading)

    Two, quick points.

    1) If this was is successfull we may make another one after xmas

    2) If you are thinking about a cab, have a £30 to spare and some space to stick it, it seems now is the ideal time to buy a bare cab from ebay. It seems that people are selling them off to make space for xmas. Sadly we haven't got the space. However, bargains can be had for under £50. If you are interested the main 5 things you are looking for are...

All doors and locks intact (hopefully with keys)
    Coin mech present
Marquee glass present (lighted bit at the top)
    Joystick control panel present
    Glass front for monitor

Doesn't matter if monitor and logic is missing or knackered.

Yes, it is doing rather well. And, I suppose we will have to another one to see how it goes. I am not convinced that this machine is selling so well because of the machine... I think it might have more to do with xmas? Still if we do another one after xmas we shall find out.
As far as cost goes. The cab was actually purchased for about £30. Actually it was a bargain because the guy on ebay was actually selling just the joystick control panel. For some reason we emailed him about cabs (I think he had a few bits and bobs for sale). It was then he said that the control panel was off a bare machine that he was going to chop up and take to the tip. A few emails later (picture given etc). He said that if we won the panel we could have the machine free. So we were bidding on a whole machine when every body else was bidding on just the panel!
I think it was about £20 in petrol to fetch the thing so it was apporx £50 for the shell.
However, to be honest it is not really the parts thats the problem... it takes bloody ages to make one. You can "fudge" one together in a few hours but to get mame/mamewah configured well and to get the machine looking great takes a long time.

as dirty girl says putting these things together to be functional takes a bloody age your looking at least a weeks worth of work to put one together, and although the shell might be cheap, add in a large moinitor pc, new joysticks butttons, trackball, psus, coin door, interfacing to the pc etc etc, and you can see why people are willing to pay for a well done one, rather than one thats slung together like most

I am currently in the process of putting another one together with a proper full jamma harness still intact, with a proper 25" arcade screen, so that it can run proper jamma boards and the games look authentic because well they are! because you are using a 15khz monitor rather than a 30khz one, proving to be a lot work but hopefully the challenge will be worth it!

    Well done DG.
You got a good return on your time and investment.
(although if you count the hours researching and designing and thinking about the project along with the build time its prolly not quite a good hourly rate)
