3 Flashing red lights

Hi

sorry if this has been mentioned before but ive started to get the dreaded red flashing lights on my 360 the problem is the case has been modded as its been cut open at the top and an acrylic window inserted, so i wont be able to send it to m$

what else can i do now?

why dont you 'borrow' some one elses case, drop insides from yours to theirs & swap back after M$ performed their magic on it?

if you hold the wifi sync button and tap the drive eject button, you get a number of flashes , there will be 4 numbers from that

ie. if all 4 lights flash its a 0, the rest are explanatory.

so you hold the wifi sync button down, press eject, write down that number of flashes (or 0 for all lights flashing)
repeat until you have 4 numbers.

then you have the error code for the failure.

it will indicate a more precise reason for the fault , and theres a decent guide over at xbox scene for the faults.

ie. if you got an 0102 error code, one I've seen couple of in the consoles of my mates.

0102 unknown error - literally means the console does not know what is wrong. possibly a short or cold solder joint somewhere. So far there is 1 major theory for what causes most of these errors is that the Ram, CPU, or GPU are not soldered properly to the mother board This can be solved by re-Heating the chips DO NOT attempt this if your console is still under warranty. If your console is still under warranty return it to the store where it was purchased or call MS to have it replaced.

thats the one people are trying the heat gun for, heat gun is a bit of a catch all fix for dry solder joints, but there are reports of it working.
some folk have just resoldered some dry joints on the motherboard and then reapplied thermal paste to the gpu, cpu and heatsinks.

personally, I've not had one resurrected from the 3 red lights yet

but then again, I've only looked at 2 so far

I just got my xbox and and this happened to it any other way to fix it , that is not too risky

Just buy a another casing of flea bay they go for �10 -�15 ...
The heat gun fix does work but sometimes the xbox fails again due to once you apply the fix the transisitors run at a higher temp then they did before.
So best alternative is to get hold of another casing.. you should be fine as its related to a manufacturing fault..

I bought mine on ebay back in April before I heard about the possible hardware issues. The heat gun fixes the 0102 problem temporarily as it has come back a few times on a cold boot. Done it about 5 times so far. Not much else I can do since its an import and modded. Seems to work in a half arsed kind of way.

thanks for the advice guys im gonna borrow my mates 360 and pop my 360 insides into his case then send it off, the warranty sticker has been removed will it be a problem?
