    Default Wireless boosting

Does anyone have any experience of wireless boosting via pringles can, or cantenna or whatever else is out there.

As my new house does not have internet I want to pick up the wireless from either my house or my cousins house which are both 0.26 and 0.21 miles away

distance is very short, and I understand that technically I could pull up anyone else's internet closer by but as It would amount to stealing some poor souls net I just don't think its right.

My new house is higher up so that should help.

    Anyway my question is

should I put up two antennas one at the base and one in my new house or will one at my new house be enough.

nb my cousins router is placed in the attic room so that would be more convenient re line of sight.

    what do u guys think

also what make of wireless bridge can I use to connect, I dont want to connect antenna directly to card, must go thru bridge with ethernet output, and can you have two outputs on a wireless bridge because I would like to connect to the net and also use my xbox, at the same time, or is there an alternative

    is this possible

wireless router ----> wireless bridge ----> hard wired router?

we ham's use 2.4 gig if you can see the house (no trees or big obsticals)then you can recive the signal the pringles ant's are ok but not too effective maplin sell a 2.4 gig corner ant and there's a simple plate ant's you can make for a few quid just have a search on google for cqtv batc and you will find most of what you need even amp's to boost and recive your signals but they won't work on routers so don't waste money on them
hth if you need any more help pm me and i'll dig out more info for you
    cheers ian

I've mad a poor mans wifi antenna. Got the idea from here: http://www.usbwifi.orcon.net.nz/

I bought a cheap wireless USB Adapter and a collander.
Found the focal point of the collander, cut a whole int the base and stuck the USB adatep in as far as the focal point.

Point the antenna out your window, connect a USB cable to the PC and there you go!

You will need to be in a direct line of sight tho.

Just an update, after a few months thinking i've gone for the following setup

2 x linksys wrt54g routers with modified dd-wrt firmware taken out of its shell and put into a ip56 enclosure, with one ethernet coming in to each one, with a home made power over ethernet connection,

both connected to a wireless 22db mesh antenna outside,

one router in ap mode, and the other in client bridge mode,

i havent put it up but once i do, i'll do a full write up if anyone is interested
