Associating File Types with XP Pro

All,

My Home PC and previous work PC was fine. However I have received a New Boxx system (only a 2x Dual core machine, not the 8x Dual cores we sell

).

I cannot re-install windows due to the nature of everyhting on it and the fact I have to use it to do software builds each day etc....

1 Thing that is pissing me off is associating file types! Everytime I try to open a custom file extension with notepad and tell windows to ALWAYS open this type of file with notepad, it never keeps the setting!!

I have administrator rights etc.... The person who previously had it had all sorts of Yahoo and Google bar shit on which I've cleared, plus symantec anti virus which I managed to eventually uninstall! But if anyone has any ideas on what is going on it would be much appreciated.

What happens when you open any folder then click on Tools > Folder Options > File Types, select the extension you want then click "change..." (choosing notepad)?

Will it remember that?

Nope mate, it's as if some security is in place! I've done the obvious shit (remember I own lots of non real versions too lol) This one has stumoed me!
