I need help using templates

Im new to web design and been using dreamweaver but i dont have the artistic flair to make good looking sites. So ive got hold of hundreds of templates and just wondered how best to modify them to my specific requirements, ie do i open them in dreamweaver or do i need a different proggy etc.. or is it much more complicated than i think?

you can open them in dreamweaver, it depends on the templates and what you want to change.
some will come with psd files so you can change the website graphics in photoshop

If they all come as PSD's open them in Adobe ImageReady (comes with Photoshop) and you will see the "sliced" image where you can easily change the text. If you want to make it more complex just open it back into Photoshop. It takes a while to get used to but its quite powerful if you're not a coder.

To be honest if your new to web design the hardest way to learn is via templates and HTML code.
If I was in your shoes I would go get a CMS (Content management system)
like PHP Nuke/E107/Post Nuke/Joomla all you need is a host with mysql and php and its a miles easier way to program Web sites.
