Default mail coming through as spam

I've just been around to a client to set up his new site for him. As part of this he wanted email sent up, which came with the hosting package as you would expect. I've used this host many times. However, when I sent through a test mail from the web based mail client it came through as spam, and I have no idea where to look or where to even begin, as I've never had a problem like this before.

Any guidance, no matter how daft it may seem, will be most welcome.

it came through in my gmail account as spam when I sent a test. Thing is I have other clients on the same host using the same mail and it doesn't go through as spam

Hmmm-Try sending it to a non-web based email account, hotmail account etc and see if it still gets put in the spam filter. Although it is being delivered as spam to your gmail account, it does not mean it will be delivered as spam to other accounts....

Is this for a form or something where a user enters info and it goes to a specific address, if so if you send one and its spam and u select this is not spam in the email folder subsequent emails should go through fine. I had the same problem with a form on my site.

No, its not from a form. This is from the web mail client sending a legitimate email to an email address. However, I will be sending email via the site, again something I've done loads of times before and never had an issue with spam.

Just to add - it going through as spam in the first instance and the person at the other end changing it is - for me - not acceptable. The site is a professional site, selling to professionals - its not like its just a silly little clan site or something like that

OK, well it looks like if any user has gmail then they will get spam, as on none of my other mail clients had problems.

Thanks guys, pointing me in the gmail direction was the key. Another hour of un-needed trauma.
