Thinking about the Maxtor Onetouch 3 for archiving media. Anyone got one, or have any thoughts?

Really solid bit of kit these. I have sold quite a few and never had any problems. I would probably look at a NAS attached device if there was more than 1 PC involved. Also, you are paying a premium for 1TB where as 2 x 500GB's might be cheaper.

Is it one drive inside? I myself have just finished building a "storage machine" but I was going to opt for some internal drives, this look quite just the ticket though.
I'd seen the Lacie 1tb big disk but i'd rather buy a Maxtor.
Can this be set-up as network storage to stream between various machines?
Don't have one myself, but it does look like it could survive a nuclear blast.
Shooooooo-ryuken!
What about this? The price is gonna go up once I add a couple of drives but I do like the look of it.

Thats a nice unit, if not a tad expensive. The good thing about that is you can just load it with 500gb hdds, as and when you need them.
For a budget, the Buffalo linkstations are great NAS attached devices.
Here is a link to Misco's page for it:

The good thing about these is that they have USB ports, so you can load them up with USB hard drives or caddies with USB connections to expand it somewhat.
The trade cost price of these is £338 (ex) so you might wanna see if you can find them cheaper.
Personally, I am in need of something similar, so I have splashed out on a cheapish tower, that I will just load with all my old hard drives.
Let me know if you need anything else mate.

Thanks gunner, much appreciated.
I've gone with the Thecus N4100 NAS Server and a couple of 400Gb drives.
Was more than I wanted to initially pay but I can add another 2 x 400Gb drives to make a total of 1.6Tb or 1.2Tb if I go with RAID 5. It's a far more flexible solution and should be just the job.........
**UPDATE** Just looked at the compatibility list for the N4100 and there's a few 500GB and even a Seagate 750Gb drive been tested ok, so I'm gonna call and change the drives to a couple of 500Gb.
