Help Mirror above mantle - pre cast flue behind

Just adding finishing touches to newly decorated living room. got a nice mirror which is quite heavy to go above mantle piece. Was planning to use a nice bit metal wall plug type device to put a sturdy hook in, and then some 3mm wire rope for the hanging strap for back of mirror. However I realised that the pre cast flue runs up the wall behind the centre of the chimney breast (1980's house so not brick built chimney) and as such maybe the wall isnt so thick in the centre where I wanted to put this nice big plug in....

Anyone got any good suggestions how I can go about hanging it now?

Do you use the chimney? You could get a metal drill and drill into the flue, and then you a suitable plug.

If it runs up the centre why not have 1 fixing either side?

    How heavy is the mirror?

Right, I had considered the 2 pin idea, however it isnt the bst way to load the fittings on the back of the mirro, which are fixed and dont pivot - they are designed for 1 point fixxing... I cant drill just in to wall as the skin to the flue is only about 1 inch and the mirror is about 10kg! heavy glass and frame! The fixings for wall are 2 inches long ish! Sure I can try the 2 pin, however both pins have to be hidden behind mirror and I suspect getting them both level and the wire the correct length and hidden will prove interesting!

    Any other bright ideas?

screw a length of wood to the wall and then have one fixing from that in the middle. Will stand out a bit more but should work fine.

    blacksheep, rep+

thats good suggestion, and gives me an idea - a metal strip screw at eithr end with a peg in cente, or hook. that would be slimmer and wouldnt push the mirror out too much at top keepin it flat to wall Just have to get some suitable steel and a couple of bolts or similar to experiment with... Anyone got some 2mm steel strip that I can have! in peterborough area!

Get a 12 foot length of rough sawn knotty timber and just wedge it off the other wall against the mirror then you can use the afore mentioned timber as a Xhristmas limbo game to entertain all your visiting relatives! Hang tinsel off it Christmas cards the possibilities are endless! Failing that you could just No nails a mirror fixing to the wall that wont come off
