Newbie Xampp + oscommerce please help

I am looking to host oscommerce on my pc [windows xp]to have a play.

I have installed and configured Xampp and got it working through:-

    http://127.0.0.1/oscommerce/catalog/admin/

The next thing i wanted to do was make it available on the net so friends can see it working and to use some of the features.

    So i did the following:-

Set local area connection to fixed ip [192.168.0.3]

created rules in router to forward port 80 [apache web service]

and to forward to lan 192.168.0.3

Created a no-ip address and assigned it to my fixed ip address through the control panel.

When i type in a web broswer

192.168.0.3 - i get the xampp control panel [its working]

    http://127.0.0.1/oscommerce/catalog/admin/ [my shop works locally]

if i type my ip into a browser i get my router config pages.

so i ask a friend to type my ip into his web browser and he gets timed out.

I then try the no-ip addy at http://smashuk.no-ip.org/

    and it does not work

originally it came up with no-ip grey site and now it puts me into my router settings

can any kind soul see where i have gone wrong? i am no expert and am amazed i got this far

sorry if i missed any important info out.

    TIA

I would consider using no-ip's DUC program, see if this helps

    http://www.no-ip.com/downloads.php
Sent from my PC using a keyboard

    DUC reports

[Sat 15:03] Checking Remote IP Address.
[Sat 15:03] Current IP address found, using xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx for updates.
[Sat 15:03] Retrieving hosts, please wait.
[Sat 15:03] Host retrieval complete. To add/remove hosts, click here.
[Sat 15:03] Updating all checked hosts
[Sat 15:03] smashuk.no-ip.org: DNS update successful.
[Sat 15:03] Once you have finished editing your hosts, click here to refresh the above list.

I have tried port 8080 in case my isp blocks outgoing traffic on port 80

Modified and double check apache config file settings located in
    Program Files\xampp\apache\conf\httpd

changed my hosts file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc [dont know if i had to do this tbh]

Still i get the router and my friend gets timed out.

could this be a service pack 2 issue?

Do i need to setup a DMZ on my router?

Could the problem lie with Vhost for only 1 served website?

any other ideas or something i have missed guys please?

    I have little hair left

Why the hell would you want to host it on your own PC?

After much investigating and testing it seems like a problem with the router [netgear 834gt] and not port forwarding properly, all ports are going stealth regardless of rules in firewall. going to update firmware tonight before i throw the router through the window [for any1 intrested]
