any help at all will be appreciated as i would like a few nice shots on new years eve.

thanx a lot everyone and keep up the good work as there are some superb photos that have been taken on here for all to admire.

don't know the camera myself, but does it have some sort of night/star pic mode ie no flash and a long exposure time as deadlys pic there blatently has a v long exposure - oh and for that I wouldn't hold the cam either a tripod or balanced on a nice flat surface, maybe using timer so no wobble at all.

deadlys photo seems to have a several seconds exposure and also for that sort of distance a flash won't do much good.

cheers blacksheep, any advice with photos of people in low light, i.e. will be in the pub 2nite and may be dark areas or disco lights etc.

and i bet theres one fooker tha turnes up in every colour poss with a m8 all in black who insist on a photo together.

i hate black it always seems blocky an i got it set to 5mp fine so god knows.

bet there loads of people like me out there with a half decent camera and no idea what so ever.

also anyone recomend a good book for beginers like myself..

its a bit different indoors taking photos of people though, obviously you want a flash for that, the blockyness is probably down to noise due to high iso levels (sure someone will correct me if wrong) and there's not much that you can do about that.

blacksheep is right, u cant really take pictures in really dark environments with alot of movement, for the camera to capture the scene it would need the shutter to be opened for an extended period, in a pub this just wouldnt work as everything would be blurred/ghosting.
Its not the fault of the camera, although some do perform better in low light.

    Hey,

As mentioned before, the shot i think your talking about of mine, was taken with a 1 or 2 second exposure, which means turning the camera to shutter priority mode (usually an "S" on the dial) and turning to 1 second, then sit the camera on something steady, i used a electricity box or something for that shot lol

Indoors in pubs though hmm, tricky, if you did what i said above the shots will be blurred because of people moving during the exposure, so your best bet is really a flash while indoors or turning up the ISO as high as you can, but that causes more grainyness lol

Best of luck! have a great night.

Fuji have the 6500, 9500 and 9600 in their stable.

There are compacts with loner zooms than standard too.

Fuji do the F650 (5x zoom)

Canon Powershots - some have 6x zoom.

    Sony H5 has a 12x zoom.

    Samsung has a 7x zoom.

Ask at any retailer and they will show you the range. There are several others.
