Xbox 360 broken already....

Just a quick Rant.......
Basically i got a 360 for christmas, i set it all up on Xmas morning as you would.
Virtually from the first few times i have turned it on it keeps coming up with E74 contact microsoft. When it does this it can take about 5 attempts to start up after this.

Any ideas for a quick fix or should i be taking it back where i bought it??

That's something to do with the AV cable I think, I'll come back with more info when I find it.

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. (this could also be a problem with the internal AV encoder chip)


Solution - try another cable, or send the box back if the problem persists.

i work at argos and they will for sure tell you to send it back to M$, stand you ground and demand to see the manager, give a store about how it ruined xmas and has serverly questioned your trust in argos as a company this usealy gets a result , but dont get angy or agressive as all staff are told to have you removed from the store by security if you become threating

I'm not an expert on this but they have no right to do that anyway.
You shouldn't have to give them any story. Your consumer rights come into play here and they are obliged to refund or replace.

Exactly right ruggie_uk, there seems to be a lot of misconception around this issue, it would be good to hear LE's view.

I am pretty sure that it's still the case that if you were not informed of a returns procedure at point of sale, such as return product to supplier (not retailer), or contact a repair centre number, then you are entitled to a replacement straight away for ANY faulty item.

I have replaced a couple of xbox 360's at different Argos's no questions asked, and also at gamestation, who tried to fob my girlfriend off with the 3 month warrenty.

Often it does just need you to be a bit forceful and demand the exchange.

hi i had a similar problem got my 360 from toys r us used it four times and went to use it put the disk in and it sounded like it was chewing it up. took it back they replaced it no problem.... i have heard that microsoft are sending the damaged boxs back out dont no wether this is true?

Yes, The responsibility to fix the problem is with the retailer

NO, you are not automatically entitled to a replacement item straight away.
