There are plently of games around where you are the manager of a team but are there any where you are the player?

I must be missing your point, as surely Pro Evolution Soccer or FIFA are football games from the players perspective?

Libero Grande i think it was on PS1, you just controlled 1 player. I can't remember if it was from a 1st person or 3rd person perspective.

EDIT - I'm guessing you mean a game where you start your career at a small club and go on from that, if so, I can't think of any really :\

you're spot on danny it was libero grande. Not a bad game but doesnt keep the interest very long. You are just one player on the pitch, thru the whole game

With the likes of Fifa and Pro Evo you can create your "own" player, or even a whole team.

You can then play that team for a career or whatever, or put a single player into another team and play a game / season using that team.

It depends how you define "you are the player"

I started writing a game engine that would allow you to do this using PES5 for the match engine, and my engine to do all the other stuff....I had plans to have a single player career too....hmm, maybe I should go back to work on it... (http://rm-manager.ram-interactive.co.uk)

I also got into New Star Soccer on PC for a while, which also does exactly what you are after.
Warning: Can keep you up for hours - has that "one more game" thing about it... http://www.newstarsoccer.com/

I've had an idea like that for ages now (although i think everyone probably has sometime or other)

Start of at the age of 16 work your way up (or down) and battle to become world player of the year, get signed by your favourite team etc. Would have been quite cool with RPG esque elements (which would hit reverse in your 30's)

Just reading that now, imagine a massive online game where teams get together (of 11 +1 captain/manager) have to go out and play online games. You start of build your player, join a club (whether its your m8's or random) and have to perform.

The captain/manager chooses the Team/Club/Name/Sttip etc and has theoption to buy and sell players, pending players exceptance. Imagine being in divison 3 uk and having a amssive offer in from someone high up in the leauges, who get to play in the champions leauge etc.

Would be difficult to do, but could be pretty sweet
