    Xbox I can't solder for sh!t

Bwahahahaha I killed my Xbox. I thought I was shit-hot at soldering hence why I ordered a Duo mod chip. But after installing it I've managed to sever several motherboard traces and now the xbox won't boot either with or without the modchip. In my defence it is the notoriously difficult rev 1.6 board which involves a complete reconstruction of the LPC port and my iron was way to hot for the job.

Anyway I now have a £50 brick but I aim to get another Xbox, perhaps a 2nd hand 1.1/2/3 rev motherboard which will hopefully be a lot easier to mod.

Thanks for the offer guys, but I've decided to be a bit cheeky and take it back to Argos as I'm still within the 16 days I got to the screws using a hairdryer to peel back the labels so it looks relatively unmolested.

P.S If you can install the DuoX2 on my new Xbox or know anyone in London, Beds, bucks, herts who could I'd be very grateful.

just tell em it did that when u turned it on if they ask, if the stickers are all in tact on the underside you should be ok. chuck a screw in the case before u screw it together and mention it rattles.

I once had a faulty ps2 which was out of warranty so I bought a new one from argos, put the faulty one in the box & returned it for a full refund. She took it out of the box & started comparing the label to the box, at which point I thought "oh dear". She then put it back into the box & gave me my £. Very dishonest but I did end up with a brand new one.

Job done she didn't even open up the box. I actually had to travel all the way up to Hertforshire because none of the Argos stores in London have them in stock.

Do you mean did I lose my bottle? I guess I didn't because I got served by a sullen looking teenager wearing black make-up and knew right away that I was home and dry

Good old argos weekend temps - always do that kinda thing between 12 noon and 1pm when older staff go for their lunch breaks and the queues get bigger. They are in more of a flap then to just "whatever" you and exchange.

    Nice one mate.

The first PS1 I got (yonks ago) was opened within days of getting it, made an @rse of the soldering (normally i'm ok with soldering, must have been an 'off' day ) stuck it back in the box, phoned the catalogue place told them it wasn't working, they put me through to Sony, at which point I was bricking it, the guy started asking if i'd had it on the carpet (which i thought was a bit personal ) coz static can screw these things up, then he tried to blame third party controllers (?!). Eventually Sony sent a courier up with a new PS1 (just the console), swapsies at the door, slam the door shut and run like buggery up the stairs...

yeah but what you forgot to mention is that you VERY VERY generously chipped it for me for FREE

and not only that FIXED a bit of the board i had fucked up after trying to chip it myself, i fitted my X2 in my green xbox no probs, but couldnt do the pin header install on a duo.

thanks again m8, box worked perfect when i got it back off you (as you know lol)

shhh shhh freaky... they'll all be wanting one

the first ps1 i ever opened, i managed to break the cd rom connector off. quite an achievement really, i had to take it back and play innocent too. best thing was the bonehead opened the box and spilled all the contents all over, so the memory card i "forgot" to put back in went un noticed.

most people messe up their first soldering job one way or the other remember doing a ps2 i actually got all going then i accidently turned it on without the laser and ribbon touched the ground part it never showed video after that.

if you mess up soldering u can use that de solder copper stuff that picks it all up i use it all the time,

Thought I was a cheeky twat doing this but you're all doing it!
I'd had mine about a year before I chipped it. Got one of the clip on ones but it kept coming off. So I soldered a set of header pins in and then fucked up the d0 point. Bought a new one from argos and swapped the motherboard AND the DVD drive (it was a samsung!) and plonked it back in the new case.

I nearly shit it when they started to open it up to inspect it in Argos, I was this close > < to running out the door! I hadn't even hairdriered the labels off, just cut a really neat hole with a scalpel! I didn't know they checked the serials at the time.
    Anyway got mi cash back!
Ooh, ooh, ooh, the funky gibbon.
