The evidence they put forward is very compelling and some of the arguments make a lot of sense.

The problem I have now, as someone who hasn;t got a clue about the science, which do I believe? I'm fucking confused to say the least. And angry. One camp is certainly trying to muddy the waters, but which one?

Could it be one giant conspiracy just to keep developing nations from developing and to provide research scientists and enviromental journalists with jobs?

At least I can buy that fucking Hummer now without feeling guilty..............

erm although I havn't watched this I still believe in global warming and all I can add to this is that there has been evidence of ups and downs from ice ages to very very hot periods every 10 thousand years or whatever but there is no doubt what so ever that we are definitely adding to the current hike in temperatures.

To try and suggest that the last 100-200 years of burning shit out of dirty big factories hasn't had any negative impact is ridiculous. So even if we aren't the FULL reason behind the high temps we should at least try to control how much shit we release into the atmosphere

hmmm, I'm like 20 mins in and the numbers they give out are pretty different to those given out for global warming activists...

another sort of thing where anyone can chuck out any old numbers to support their side.

So tbh who the fuck knows who is telling the truth if even scientists can't agree :/

that was incredibly interesting...

specially about the ipcc, its roots and its "top scientists". kinda puts a black mark on the whole UN report.

certainly puts a new perspective on why the notion of global warming and its dangers is being encouraged with respect to developing nations.. an aspect i hadnt even considered till seeing that..

never seen any of the solar correlations either.. made a stark contrast to those shown in the likes of an inconvenient truth.

I would have to side with the ch 4 chaps on this one, as i see it they have nothing to gain from what they have to say ( other than getting their names in papers and on telly and some serious ego stroking getting done ) where as the point they make about funding and what not seems to make sense.Oh well, i suppose we'll soon see when everyone in the shetland isles has a cracking tan.

Form something I read just today, if we all breathed 1/3rd less air we'd cut carbon emissions globally of a net weight 0.93tonns...

i wasnt in the mood for this when it was on so i havent seen it either

tbh i was always of the belief that this sort of thing is made up by the sort of people i dont like, but channel 4 are very modern and liberal usually (as much as they can be considering that any sort of bias on tv is illegal, unlike newspapers) so i'd be inclined to think that there is something to this if they are supporting it

i feel the same as cj too, if scientists cant agree then what are we supposed to think about it?

gonna watch the video tomorrow probably, see if that helps make my mind up.

its actually pissing me off how unenviromentally friendly i am. i drive past the bus to uni every morning, i drive the 10 minute walk to the shop every day, i chuck everything in the bin and it only gets recycled if mum sees me and takes it back out to put it in the recycling. gonna work on changing that in the next few days at any rate, since there isnt much doubt that recycling and a reduction in the use of oil is very much needed

What a brave program! I've been strongly in the global warming camp for a long time and was actually a little angry when I saw that they had made this. I thought it would just set things back when people were just waking up.

Now that I've seen it and seen the real experts ripping the global warming theory to shreds like that it puts rather a different light on things.

The big revelation for me was that the 650,000 years of evidence of a correlation between CO2 and temp (the big graph on Inconvenient Truth) is the wrong way round! The temp changes are leading the CO2 changes by many many years not vice versa!

Now, it's been a while since I was in my Uni lab but I'm pretty sure we'd have thrown our theory out the window at that point.......unless, of course, our multi-million pound funding package and all our jobs depended on it!

My take on it at present is that the theory still isn't necessarily a bad thing. Fossil fuels are still a finite resource and diverting our reliance on them onto renewable sources will definately have been an important step for when they run out (which I'm sure will be well outwith our lifetime). I think it's human nature that we won't do anything unless a problem appears to affect us negatively and immediately and the cataclysmic global warming theory is certainly having it's effect.

So basically I reckon, in years to come, they'll say "Oh well, we were wrong about the theory but it aint all bad because the majority of our power is now from renewable sources."

Suppressing rival economies and charging us emissions based taxes I'm sure is no fortunate coincidence either!

As the programme points out, this issue appears to be purely political and has very little to do with the environment.

I also thought it was interesting to hear that since the fall of communism the environmental movement had been targetted by hard line activisits from the left as they searched for a new battle ground in their war on capitalism. Again, makes perfect sense.

However, we shouldn't ignore the fact that we still need to rein in our consumption as a species. Deforestation, over fishing of the oceans and the pollution of delicate eco-systems are serious issues that need our attention.
