chilliman: What client are you using? It is a simple case of changing the server address from unlimited.newshosting.com to 69.16.176.254. Use port 119. Post results

You guys are lucky i dont have 20 meg in my area yet!! stupid mancheter and *** lol
Right then. I just tried all the newshosting ports on the european server with 8 connections and the best I can get is 10mb still, I upped the connections to 20 (I know, your not meant to) and got up to 15mb at one point with an average of 13.5mb or so.
It looks like Giganews have just got a new customer.
One question about Giganews, do I really need 256 Bit SSL Encryption? If not then it's only about £4 a month more than NH.

Righto, I'll give it a go. This trial, I will do a gig in no time obviously, does that mean that once I've done a gig I'll have to wait 3 days until I can start downloading again via giganews?
I'm going to sign up for the Diamond package so I can have 20 connections, that works out at about £7 a month more which is worth it I think, plus it has the encrytion included, it's just the connections I want more than anything. I shall sign up now and report my speeds back.

I'll be interested to hear your results.
Although in thread above:
http://forums.newsbin.com/viewtopic.php?t=19003
someone says:
"European Server is working fine - can max out my 25 Mbit Cable Pipeline with 8 Connections "
So it shows newshosting can deliver. It may just be Virgin who are crap (*shock*!) ;-p
See if you get any better results first thing tomorrow morning.
W.
I can only get 13mb with giganews and I've gone past the 1 gig trial whilst testing the poxt 3 ports they have on the us and europe servers. I should have kept an eye on what was being downloaded as now I'm going to have to stick with Giganews for a few more measly meg. Oh well.

Hmm sorry to hear that buddy. Thankfully you aren't bound to service for any longer than the month you have paid for, so just cancel at the end of the month and cut your losses.
Too late, already cancelled. Hopefully they won't bill me for anything as I was only 700mb over the 1 gig trial thing.
I just tried to log in to verify how much I'd downloaded but it seems they have cancelled the account already even though in the email it said it would be active until 06/1/2007.
Fingers crossed they won't bill me.
Just got this email, does this mean I'm not going to get billed for going .07 over the 1gig trial limit?
Dear Giganews customer (********),
We thought we would let you know that you have reached 100% of your
purchased download volume for your current transfer period. Here are
your current statistics:
Period start: 06/01/2007
Period ends:
Purchased download volume: 1.00GB
Used download volume: 1.07GB
Reached on: 06/01/2007
At the rate at which you have been downloading news, we project
that you would use a total of 0.00GB by the end of this period.
An additional alternative is to log in to http://www.giganews.com/ and
click on 'Account Auto Recycling'. Here, you can enable
auto-recycling. When your account hits its limit, it will
automatically renew for another period, and you will have no service
interruption.
You can review this and other information online by logging in to
http://www.giganews.com/.
Please note: you will not be automatically upgraded into the next
service level, and you will not be charged for anything that you have
not selected for yourself. Your account, however, will automatically
renew at the end of your period, and you will be billed for a new
period of service on that date.
Thank you for your continued patronage,
Giganews Administration
