Forum closed to new members?

A potential new [family] member emailed me the following this afternoon:

"... digital forum is not allowing new members, that facility has been disabled "Sorry, registration has been disabled by the administrator ..."

Have I missed an announcement somewhere? Is this permanent, a temporary glitch or a problem with his brand new Vista PC's settings? As a dedicated Mac man myself, I have no idea whether or not it could be a Vista problem so am just throwing that in as another possibility.

Any advice which I could pass on, please?

yeah. its closed.

we have periods of being open and periods of being closed. just depends on the number of spammers registering and various other things.

this is raps decision, and an announcement will probably be made if we re-open for registrations again.. probably not for a while though.

yea should keep it closed for like 6 months, then put up a pass on ebay then the highest bidder gets in and the money goes towards the site

ditto.. less hassle with people registering purely to post spam.

This has probably been asked before but can it be done by referrals? If it could then if member x invites member y and then y is a prick, x can have, for example, infraction points.
