Lumens (lamp brightness, the higher the rating, the brighter conditions it will work in) is very low, you really want a lumens rating of about 1500-2000

well yes and no. The brighter the bulb can go, as you say, means the less dark the room needs to be to get a decent picture. But it isn't the most important at all, it depends on how you think you will use yours. If you look at some of the really decent budeget projectors like the panasonics then you'll see that their lumens don't go much higher than 1000. The most important is the contrast ratio, the higher that is means the more detail you will see, especially in dark areas or scenes set at night. I have an older sanyo z1 which has a brightness of 700 lumens and tbh it's a brilliant picture. I can watch it quite happily in the day with the curtains closed, but at night with all the lights out I have to actually turn it down as it gets too bright and hurts your eyes. This projector is very very good and at that price is a steal! I think I might just indulge and replace my z1

Bugger out of stock just as I got my Credit Card out!!!!

It says 1080p, but a review says it is not HD ready? I'm a little confused by that?

Cheaper than a PS3 too! I know what i'd rather have!

I was wondering the same thing as Goldberg - surely if it can run those resolutions then it must qualify as HD?

    no not really.

    Native Resolution: 854x480

The proj supports all those resolutions but will downscale them. To be proper hd it needs to have a native resolution of 1024x768 atleast.

My z1 has a res of 964x544 pixels so is slightly better.

Put it this way, with mine, for films the picture is stunning, very very enjoyable experience. With my xbox 360 set to 720p its a bit hit n miss. To play something like battlefield 2 on it where you need perfect shooting accuracy from a long distance then I struggle a bit as it's not as clear as my hdtv but to play something like pes or test drive or the like it is stunning.

I'm going to take the plunge as soon as it is back in stock. For less than £350 it seems like a bargain not to be missed.

my x2 is 1300 lumens and my mates x1 is 1100, mine is easily useable with the curtains open in daylight, just out of direct sunlight. His isnt.

For those "Blue Peter" type cheapskates out there you could try building your own for next to nothing. All you need is a old LCD monitor, Over head projector and a fan!

    http://tomshardware.co.uk/2004/11/13...or_/index.html

Strangely enough, I have just snagged a 15" LCD monitor with broken back light (off ebay) for just £10! I just need an OHP now. I am hoping to get the whole thing up and running for under £30
