    Help Vista Internet problem

    Hi

Im currently running Vista 32bit Business edition and i am having a few problems with my internet connection.

I connect to my router via a USB WiFi dongle, which seems to work fine with vista, i can connect to the router, browse the web, download files ect.

However sometimes the connection will not allow me to browse the internet, but my downloads will still download. The network icon in the system tray has the globe which indicates that i have internet but all i get is the "Page not found" screen on both Firefox and IE. The only way to resolve the problem is to reboot the computer, then all is back to normal.

This happens on multiple networks (there are some unsecure wifi routers in my building at uni ) so i dont think it is a router problem, plus other people on the network have no problems.

I have tried flushing the dns via command prompt, getting new a new ip address and unplugging the USB WiFi dongle and trying another port. But nothing, iv also disabled the TCP/IP v6 thing, as iv read that can cause problems.

    Anyone got any ideas

    Cheers
    Scottio

i cant think of any reason downloads would work but not browsers...

my only suggestion would be to try a proper wireless card m8.. dongles are usually a bit crappy..

Get the same problem mate with my netgear wireless dongle - i think its something to do with the driver but as of yet there don't appear to be any newer drivers for it than the ones i am using :/

PC World (I know, I know) sell a Belkin 54G wireless PCI card for the princely sum of £19.99 (the web price is £13.97).

I've had 2 so far (for the kids machines) and I honestly can't fault them.....they just work as you would expect them to and installation is a doddle (you install the software first, then shut down and install the card).

The product code for them is 886359 if you want to search the PCW website.

    PS
Belkin also offer a lifetime warranty on them as well.
