Phew, that’s a relief then. Kai Huang, president of Guitar hero publisher RedOctane, has confirmed that when Guitar Hero III comes out on Wii later this year, it will have a proper guitar peripheral and online features. However, it’ll still use the Wiimote in some way.
“We are really excited about the Wii game because there are so many options for the Wii remote,” he told IGN. “However, you will play the game with a guitar peripheral and it will be similar to a guitar you’ve seen in the past.”
How could the Wiimote be used then? I’m hoping it’ll let another player beat John Bonham-esque drums while you crank out the solo from Whole Lotta Love. Or – pleasepleaseplease – the guitar peripheral could have a slot for you to plug in your Wiimote for DOUBLE-NECKED RAWK ACTION. See photo above.
Meanwhile, the connected features will include online play, and also downloadable songs for the game. I’m hoping the latter will turn out to be true. The game is due out in Autumn, which would possibly make it the first Wii game to have extra downloadable elements – something that’s already happening on PS3 and Xbox 360.
