    Question Ever used Monster?

We are advertising a job on Monster at the moment and it has had 140 views since Friday. We've only had one c.v. through so far but I think more will come in the next couple of days. We have put that application is by post only, so we aren't receiving email applications.

Based on the number of views my question is (and am hoping for answers from employers and employees who have used the site) what can we deduce from this amount of views? Have people done a specific search and seen it ie being people who are interested in that role? or has it been scanned over in a very broad search and so not really a good indication of the amount of people looking for this type of role?

    Hope this makes sense.

I have use dit, but only when looking for jobs. My experience is that I get a lot of recruitment agencies phoning me up wanting to submit me for applications but very few from the actual company themselves. I know that monster emails me eevry now again saying it has found X amount of possible roles - perhaps this counts towards a view?

I wouldn't go off views alone - I know when I am job hunting, I tend to open up loads of jobs even then you see something on there like the location is not quite right, and then just close that tab.

Ive used Monster alot and as John K pointed out, mostly you get agents phoning up who have spotted your CV and want to put you forward for a job.

I dont know how monster works in terms of hits, but Reed works in the way that you get the number of hits in as the number of people who actually viewed the job. I would imagine monster is similar as 140 certainly is possible since Friday. The search parameters on monster are pretty wide afterall and there are a hell of alot of people on monster looking for jobs.

Unfortunately, I think only allowing submissions via post and not email maybe severely limiting your options regarding applications. Have to admit, I would think twice about submitting an application through the post these days, seems alot of extra work when the vast majority of jobs now require you to submit electronically. You might argue that if people want the job then they would take the time to apply... yes this is true to a certain extent, but people are also busy and printing a letter and CV off and posting them is time consuming compared with just banging an email off.

Oh and just out of interest, whats the job spec?

I get you point but we wanted to avoid being bombarded with emails from agencies.

Is that fancy speak for bin lorry driver?

As Fresh says, a lot of people would rather submit a CV online, especially seeing as on Monster you upload your CV so can literally click a few buttons and send off your CV. If you're not getting many back after a few weeks then i'd open up email applications. It only takes a second to delete an unwanted email from an agency, and in reality, you can never have too many CV's.

    We've had 18 c.v.'s so far.

Some are totally unsuitable and some are very appropriate. I feel we can tell a lot more about someone from the way their c.v. is presented when it's a hard copy that has been posted. Some of the hand written envelopes look like a child has written them, some have smudged the ink on their c.v. but not bothered to re-print them etc.

I definitely think these minor details are quite revealing about the applicant.

On that thuoght, if you can, why not upload a form onto monster for people to fill in to send with cv.

Doesn't have to be too challenging, but if I'm serious about a job - I will first write the answers on another sheet of paper, then slowly and carefully transfer the answers to the form in my best handwriting in a decent fountain pen. Probably a bit overkill for the jobs I've had but if you are looking out for that kind of thing...

A good idea mate, but we've had a good response so far and I think we will find our person with the current method. Cheers anyway.

some people just like a straight forward phone number to ring or / and email address to send their cv too. as advised above, nothing worse than using the email facility, filling in your details then gettick some co(k ringing you up saying ' the job vancancy as now gone but we got this available' and it sumat completly out of your location and the wages suck

Can I just say that I can find nothing wrong with wanting a proper application or CV, if that's what the employer requires then that is it, suck it up.
I'm all for electronic means as it is a lot simpler, but if somebody cannot be arsed to get to the post box to get a new job then that person isn't for you.
