    Default DIY Sky setup

Hi, i've had a hotbird setup for a few years using Echostar receiver with 80cms dish. What i'd like to know is, can i buy a sky digital plus box without going through sky, install it myself and then get a subscribtion from sky for the packages i want? If i can, would i still have to have the box connected to a phone line and are there any other advantages/ disadvantages to doing it this way

Yes you can get a duel feed(offset) with the dish pointing at Hotbird and the extra lnb pointing to 28 dg.Get a sky box and sub.You only needed connecting by phone before if you had the subsidised setup for a year which you wont. You may get a good cheap sub if you say you were thinking about sky and were offered a receiver s/h.
