Default Downloading music - Justifying it to the kids

I got my lad (10 years old) an MP3 player and as I was sat at the PC pulling music off the internet for him he stumped me by asking if it was illegal.

What do you do in this situation?

Pretend you have paid for the privilege?
Try to differentiate between what is and isn't *really* a crime?
Pony upfor some CD's and rip them?
    Admit you are a pikey?

Tell him you bought them, when he grows up a bit he will know full well that you didn't and understand why you lied to him, then he will start doing it himself.
Trying to explain that some laws are plain stupid probably won't have the desired effect.

I suppose, I guess learning to lie through his teeth won't do him too much harm.

Copy and paste the code, to the right of the window

I'd tell him that I bought it but when he's a bit more savvy and older he'll figure it out for himself.

    What did you tell him?

I tried to explain without too much profanity how I barely give a shit because these f**kers have more money than sense and if I couldn't lay my hands on it for free there would be absolutely no danger of me parting with my money for it, so in essence there was no loss to them.

I explained to my boy that popular musicians are paid ridiculous amounts of money, and with that money they often do naughty things, like hookers and columbian disco dust. I then explained to him the more we download, the less their next record deal would make them and therefore the more we protect people like Robbie and Beyonce from going straight to hell.

    Praise be....

Whoah, I hope you aren't suggesting I downloaded any Robbie or Beyonce

Unfortunately also yup, Docherty. Shame he can't have all his money confiscated for the heinous crime of being such a fucking prick.

Anyway, we sidetrack. Tell him you bought them and let him learn for himself.
