Question Open Tray, Close Tray, Open Tray......

Not my night really - having failed my 360 tonight I'm also fixing a friends.

I've just fitted a new laser but I think I might have damaged the DVD cables, place a disc in the tray spins for a milli-second then says "open tray", insert another disk nd the same happens.

I shouldn't have to tweak a new laser should I? I'm guessing I could try the old laser again and see if I get a different problem?

    Again ideas sought please....

Have you removed the anti static solder blob on the laser?
You see, TheThingIs, eventually you'll be all right!

Slap head time - no I haven't, and I have heard of this as well, cheers for the tip.

Where is it by the way?

Can I remove the solder without a soldering iron?

Removed the solder, starts to read disks then makes a different compaint.

This while chucking red lights all over the place one minute it's a 0110 then it's a 0102 error code.

When it does boot up I' ve a matrix style screen for the launch game/options pages - I fucking hate this machine.

Halo 3 can fuck off and so can the GTA extra content, I'm getting a PS3 fuck this shit.

Well done to those who still have working machines, if you buy a new machine these days take out a 5 year warranty, I'm sure you'll make good use of it.

I know exactly how you feel. It's the biggest most unreliable heap of shit iv'e ever had the misfortune to get involved with. M$ you can blow the xbox 360 out your arseholes.

to be honest i replaced my 360 laser and didn't remove the solder and had to throw the laser out. If you take it to the console repair shop they will fix it, theres bound to be one near you. What you need to do is get them to replace the drive but not the controller board. Reardless what people say this doesn't lead to an instant ban online, i'm not banned yet, seems to work fine. 360 has had no problems since then. Theres also a way to tweak the power of the laser if you have a voltmeter you can check it, very small incrementations make a very large difference be careful.
