Laptop too slow without internet

This a strange one, if i boot my laptop without ethernet internet it takes ages to boot up and keeps freezing

but as soon as i plug in the ethernet its fine

i cant see the task manager processes when it freezes so its a difficult one to solve

any suggestions

PC is polling for an I.P.. then times out.

I would hazard a a guess that when it's unplugged from your network (internet) connection it is spending it's time trying to aquire an IP address rather than detecting no LAN activity and moving on.

sounds about right, anyway to fix this? i'll google for some info

It should really be moving on fairly quickly if there isn't any activity, but as it's not you could try setting a fixed IP so that it doesn't have to aquire one but has it pre-set.

i've just had a look at how long the lan connection has been on for, it says over two days even though i restarted quite a few times in the last 2 days,

hopefully getting close to solving this

thanks for pointing me in the right direction, the nforce network controller had someone been disabled, it would still connect via ethernet but now its all solved
