    Default wedding photographer...

I get married next year and I'm looking for a photographer for it. The wedding will take place in stockport near manchester and I have seen some very accomplished work being posted on here, and you guys seem to have some very professional gear, lots of knowledge and enthusiasm for taking great pics.

Anyone fancy the job?? I will be paying obviously.

If not, does anyone in the area know of a decent photographer who isn't charging about £800 for about 15 pics?

    thanks in advance.

I've done a few weddings for mates and took a wedding and portrait course last year but I'm far from a pro. You don't always get what you pay for but it's often an indication of quality a good pro isn't going to be cheap.

Me and the missus aren't tightarses or anything, its just that we obviously have an awful lot of other things to pay for in the run-up to the big day, and £600-850 for about 20 photos is a bit much we think. We're putting on a buffet for almost 80 people for that much!

Plus, we're not exactly the kind of people that will look at the pictures every week, they'll only end up in a cupboard after all the family and friends have seen them, i just get the feeling that photographers are exploiting people because photos of the big day are seen as a neccesity.

just because some people call themselves pro, it doesn't mean they are good.
went to a friends wedding last year in harlow, essex, the photographer was a right arsehole, telling guests to hurry up because he was in a rush and he had to get to another shoot. on top of that his photo's where crap. made the bride cry with his attitude on the day as well.
on top of that, i got better pics than he did with an olympus digital compact, i just gave them the memory card at the end of the day and they didn't use the official photographer. /rant
the only ones that are any good that i know of do charge a lot, you maybe better asking a passionate amateur, i'm sure he/she could do just as good a job on the pics.

If you can get a talented amateur then fine, however, beware my sister had a friend of heres to do it from work and the photos were wank!

I think you really get what you pay for you should be able to get a decent portfolio done for £500.

Whats Mr Olympia, _belial or Bilbo doing in August 2008?

Sorry I wasn't suggesting you were tight. Just that those that are genuinely talented will be charging a sight more than the £800 as they then have the time to dedicate to you and lets face it they're not going to pull there prices down when they know much poorer quality weekend warriors charge that much.

I would as of whoever you chose to see a whole set of pics from one or 2 weddings to get a realistic view of what you can expect. I could show you a portfolio of what you would probably say are amazing shots but unfortunately they are my best and I couldn't guarantee an album of 50 amazing shots just good/OK ones.

Your venue has big part in how good your pics will look too with a great backdrop mediocre shots will look good where as well executed shots in a dive will have to be very creative to look nice. 2 of the weddings I did where in awful locations, graffiti on the church walls and a church above a sandwich bar. This is why some photographers only do expensive weddings. More profit and better shots guaranteed. I tried to convince the couples to use alternative locations for the pics. Local parks and country houses don't have to be hired to take some shots with them as a backdrop, but the brides weren't bothered and hey it's there day. On the other hand I've shot at lovely country houses and even on a poor day the shots look so much better.

If your stuck drop me a mail I'm only up the road south of Preston but on the understanding that I'm not a pro.

check your local press/library for photo clubs, ive joined one near me and the standards the members produce is fantastic, im sure if you sent them and email one of the members would be able to help.

Try searching flickr for your towns name + photo / photography & club / association etc
