If you have a subbed modem with an active account and you have a modded modem that you are just waiting for a mac addy for from elsewhere in your town, it's worth trying mac addies up or down of your subbed modem.

What I mean is, when the installers go round installing modems from house to house in a town, they have boxes of 10 or 20 modems at a time, and the mac addies are sequential on the modems in this box.. all of these modems certainly don't end up in the same UBR...say your subbed ones last two mac digits are 72, you could try the same mac in the modded one, but change the last two digits to 76, then try 7A, then 7E etc. This can and does work (A couple of mine are working this way), though you can't dictate what config it will use if you catch a good mac, you could then force a higher one.

Worth trying if your sat on your thumbs waiting for a trade .

    - If you're using a hacked Ambit 250 or Webstar modem, they sometimes respond better to using hyperterminal Console for editing macs etc. than a windows GUI configurator (Not always, but seen a few not update via windows GUI, but do it fine via Hyper Terminal)

It's a SB4200, still waiting on it being delivered. Just out of interest although not stupid enough to try it. What would happen if I used my own mac address (and never used my ambit 250 again) would it raise flags?

I have an old hacked STB with an outdated titanium card (now got a dbox) could I use the mac out of that?

Hypothetically speaking could you use a friends from a different area and he could use yours?

Unless your mate is as paranoid as Fitzybhoys mate lol, that would be fine.

explain to him what sniffing is!

no info is sent across the network. All that the sniffing prog does is receive dhcp requests from modems and displays them. give him a slap and tell him to get it done

that's exactly what i did 1st time. got the mac off my subbed modem and then added 2 onto it and put it onto the hacked modem. Then added 2 more and so on and within 5 mins of doin this i had a working mac

add 2 because a modem is assigned 2 macs, 1 for the rj45 and 1 for the usb

oh and if anyone needs macs for the manchester area then I can trade...I'm on bolt05
