Question having probs getting an HD file to play

    Hi all.

Read x amount of tutorials, and its driving me crazy

Read CJ's tutorial on streaming HD content.

Successfully converted a .ts file to a dvr-hd file using TSconverter.

Tested it in media centre, and yes it finds it on my computer and plays it, but skips like mad (its wireless). as expected.

So I want to burn it to a DVD.

created a DVD UDF MODE1 (not UDF ISO) in nero, and copied the file over.

    Burnt disk.

Xbox 360 detects the media as "mixed media", then i goto the media tab, and video.. choose "current disk", and it says no videos found.

I'm guessing that its because its a media player format.

then I changed the file extention to .wmv, and burnt again.

It detects the file, but says it cannot play it "unrecognised format"

Do I have to convert these things differently, or is there a simple fix for this.

And links to utils, or tutorials would be a great help. (not streaming tutorials please)

EDIT, also is ther no way to play damn DVD's in media center ??

i dont think you can just rename extensions.

you need a file converter from a DVD to WMV.

If you download the microsoft HD trailers from their site and burn them to a data dvd (they are wmv files) they will work straight away by going to the video tab etc...

Your probally have to convert the files to windows .wmv format for the xbox to read with no major problems.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.mspx

or you could try http://tversity.com/home as this can be used to stream various different video files.

i presume that streaming isnt an option as your wireless isnt good enough

only way to play hd off normal dvd's is to convert them to .wmv files

or better still, convert them to .wmv and put them on a usb hard drive
You see, TheThingIs, eventually you'll be all right!

Right, iv got a very similar problem, so I thought id ask here instead of starting another thread.

I've downloaded the Simpsons movie, and converted it from XVID (file is 1.43GB) to .WMV (file is now only 395MB for some reason), and it plays perfectly fine on my PC! However, when I burn it to disc or put it on a USB drive the 360 says it cant play that format!!

I used "Alive Video Converter 3.1.6.2" to convert it, but I did use a serial I found off the net to get past the trial mode (serial was for 3.1.2.8 cos I couldn't find one for 3.1.6.2, but it worked..or it seems like it worked)! You think that has anything to do with it?

Like I say, it plays perfectly fine on my PC off my HDD, my USB drive and off the discs Iv burnt it to!

    Any ideas??

decided this is the best way forward.

get .mkv movies, and convert them using this method.

    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.p...ed&pid=4043311

    will try tonight.

sorry to resurect an old thread, but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

I gave up converting, after realising its going to take over 24 hours to convert!!

So I now just look for ready done WMV-HD files from NG's

I found some Heroes WMV-HD files, and i burnt 2 eps onto a single layer bog standard DVD+R (cheap stuff). Just to test.

The file played, and it looks great. Woot.

Then half way into it it came up to say, it could not play the content (not supported).

I wondered if it was the media so I burnt them onto a Maxell DVD+RW. It then played and got past that bit it suffered with before, so I knew it wasn't the file. But then it stopped just before the end of the episode with the same error.

I then played the next episode, and that had loads of crashes with the same error.

So I then burnt the second episode to a Taiyo Yuden (single layer) DVD+R. It played it ok, so I thought I'd cracked it with some quality media. Then the next burn of ep 3-4 stopped with the same errors on a Taiyo Yuden.

I'm using NERO and making an DVD UDF image, and just dragging them over. I'm also selecting "Xbox compatibility mode" from one of the tabs.

These Taiyo's are fine with all my Wii games, so I guess that my 360 drive just doesn't like DVD+R's?

Anyone got any high compatibility suggestions for media for burning this stuff? Or is it a case of try a few different types?
Sorry for dragging this post on a bit.

its not that mate! ALL my 360 'backups' are burnt onto DVD+R Dual Layer media, and they all work fine!

have you got an external hard drive/USB stick that you could fit an episode that gave you problems onto? Cos if you still get the same problems using a USB stick you can rule out the media as a problem!

I cant see it being the file though, because i ve managed to get them all to play, but wasted about 7 DVD+R's in the process. it all depends on the burn.

I might invest in an external HD though.

Update, even DVD's on the Taiyo yudens struggle on the 360. So its either NERO, or it doesnt like these single layers.

I'm gonna buy a few small packs different types as well.
