    Default "Limited or no connectivity"

    Hi people,

Firstly I will say that you will have to excuse my ignorance, I'm very bad with computers. Secondly I'm sure this has been covered before, so I hope you will afford me some patience.

My laptop won't connect to the home network. All I get when I try is "limited or no connectivity". I have tried turning on/off the router and modem, but this changes nothing.

I expect you may ask me for the following, so here goes:

    Windows IP configuration

    Host name......Chris
    Primary Dns Suffix......
    Node Type......Unknown
    IP Routing enabled......Yes
    WINS Proxy Enabled......No

    Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix......
    Description......Intel<R> PRO/Wireless 2200BG Connection
    Physical Address...... 00 16 6F 44 91 15
    Dhcp Enabled.....Yes
    Autoconfiguration Enabled......Yes
    Autoconfiguration IP address......169.254.75.246
    Subnet Mask......255.255.0.0
    Default Gateway......

I suspect the problem could have many solutions, but I have no clue how to sort it. Sorry for my ignorance with computational matters. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Cheers

    Chris

sounds like your wireless password is incorrect

    what make is your router?

you will need to go to the router settings page and get the correct wireless password

The router is Linksys wireless G WRT54G. Where can I find the wireless password?

Indeed. When I did a little search beforehand there was no mention of this, though it could have been overlooked. Still I am no closer though

is the DHCP on in your router?

Go to that router page again > IP Addressing or Network settings >
Should see one Called DHCP make sure that is on or ticked.

    What firewall you got running?

Erm, there is an "enable" box ticked for "Network Address Server Settings (DHCP)" if this answers you question?

I have just taken the firewall off because that was a suggestion, but nothing changed when I did that anyway - still 2bars out of 5 signal strength.

Thanks for the help so far people...

Right, so selected WEP key from a drop down menu and there is a passphrase generator with spaces underneath for key 1, key 2 etc. Should I press generate?

Under "WEP encryption" it says 64 bit 10 hex digits, so that's sorted right? So i should type wep key 1 or something?

    Once you do the above

on you laptop Change you wireless Software to Let windows Manage me network connections from the setting. if it not done already.

So you have the windows wireless manager up
like the one below Click scan and then connect.
Will then ask you to enter WEP key.

    Right,

I typed in the WEP key when it asked me to, i.e. when i tried to connect to the "home" network. No change. Am I meant to be changing any settings on my laptop?
