<!-- S BO --><!-- S SF --> Piglets from a day-old litter were hacked to death in a "sickening" attack at a popular farm and visitor centre in South Yorkshire. Thirteen piglets were discovered missing from their sty when members of staff arrived for work at Heeley City Farm in Sheffield.
Body parts from three piglets were found scattered around the farmyard.
The ten remaining piglets are missing, farm spokeswoman Jill Brookes said. Police are investigating the incident. <!-- E SF -->
'Chopped in half'
Ms Brookes said: "The piglets were born on Thursday morning. They were all healthy, tiny things - the size of a pint pot.
"When we arrived on Friday morning the piglets were all gone.
"We had a walk around and members of staff found two piglets that had been chopped in half.
"Another one was found on Saturday morning, half buried.
"It looked like it had been kicked to death. It's sickening." she said.
The piglets' mother is a half-tonne Gloucester Old Spot sow called Nelly.
South Yorkshire Police said they had stepped up patrols in the area.
The farm and environmental visitor centre is home to pigs, sheep, goats, ponies and cows.
Volunteers aged as young as eight help to look after the animals.
