i think my laser is going

hi all,

I'm not sure what to do.

I opened the 360 today as i've been having a few problems with it reading some games.

I cleaned the laser and then tried my back up and it worked perfectly, now just went to play it and i'm getting like a crackle type nosie as the laser is sounds like it's having problems reading it.

So it's working and then it's not, new laser? or different media?

I was wondering if i can put a hitachi laser in my sammy as the sammy lasers are way too dear.....

yes the laser units are identical between hitachi and samsung look on ebay they are all the same price

yep exact same just diff runners on the lasers/2 min job

Thanks guys, i didn't notice any from the UK, i don't know how, they were a few but they were quite dear, so i've ordered one from....wait for for it.......China.

It'll be here within 365 days they say so i'll just have to sit back and wait.

Are they easy to fit?

hey thanks very much.....i'll give it a whirl and if not i might give you a shout.

Just been looking through and found some good instructions on doing it, looks straight forward apart from where you say the guide rails are different.

Any way, i'll give it a bash man! as we say up here wor kid...lol (oh how the geordie spoken word is weird)

yeah just be careful i tried to install the a hitachi laser in my sammy and ended up bricking the drive and having to take it to the repair shop becuase i'd forgot to remove the antistatic solder blob.

For 60 quid i got a repair shop to keep my ms25 controller board and use a ms28 drive as a replacement.

I'm going to remove it using a soldering iron, I'll just make sure it's completely removed.

hi all changed the laser today and all i get now is nothing working.

All the connections are connected.

When in try an original all i get is " put this in a 360 console " and then when i try a back up it just tells me to eject disc.

Any dieas at all please?

hi man thanks for all your help the other day it's much appreciated.

You'll never guess what but me mates sammy that was flashed on the same pc and has the same version of iextreme on it and has been playing the same games as me is now not working.

What a flipping night mare.

Me mates just been on msn and told me that none of the backups will play.

Either i have a faulty burner (pioneer) and it's making some kind of messed up disks thats wearing the lasers out quicker than expetced, or the shitty disks that i've been using instead of some verbs?

My old sammy would play any thing.

Dam, i'll have to fix his now as i talked him into getting a machine and getting it flashed.

What could be going wrong? i mean 2 machines and they both now fook up???

I might call for your help again, i'm going to send him a game on monday thats been burned on a verb and see if that works, if not can i drop you a few cans off for a replacement laser game again?

i reckon cheap disks will eventually burn ur laser out as strugles to read the disks (my opinion)

i'm with you on the cheap disks thing then, i mean whats the chances of 2 machines going at the same time, or within a few days of each other.

both flashed on the same pc
both using the same firmware
both sammys
backups burnt on the same writer (poineer 112d) x 2 speed
both on these disks (stay away i say)



will you need his whole 360 back if we swap a laser then we won't be able to test it, and i know the only other way is to read the firmware and all that from like say my drive.....

hi all, well i'd just like to say thanks to pizza-man for all his help.

Sent me mate 2 new games burnt on verbs and they work perfect so cheers man.

Got me self another 360, done a deal with a mate for the old one and his, so i'm back up and running.
