Default Windows Live Messenger on Vista Premium Home

Help! Messenger won't work on my new computer. No idea why, I'm getting error 81000306. When I do the "troubleshoot" there are not ticks against IE's offline setting and Wireless, but this PC is hardwired to my router. I don't think it can be a router issue because my laptop runs the same messenger without any issues. I've checked the firewall (just Windows Firewall that comes with Vista) and Windows Live Messenger is enabled. IE and FireFox are both connected to the internet.

    Can anyone advise?

if this is the same error i was getting.. then its something to do with one of the newer versions of WLM.

i downgraded in the end, but at the time i was fixing it with a reg hack. it just bins some kinda hand shake cache for msn and starts afresh.

might not be the same error so it may not work.. i cant remember the code i was getting.

this looks dodgy but i assure u its fine.

just double click it and agree to whatever it says.

Getting the same error - but I read on the MSN forum about the policies, and saw there wasn't an entry there in the first place. I guess I'll have to try and get an older version.

pizza-man - sorry, not sure what you mean by time and date. System time and date? Seems ok - right day, date and time is ok. I should point out that you are dealing with a PC moron here, I kind of need easy to follow basic instrtuctions!
