    Default Media - advice needed

    Evening.

I`ve just wired up my shuttle next to the TV so we can view Xvids and stuff direct to the Tv.

My TV is an old-ish Sony Wega widescreen thing with no DVi

I`ve interfaced to it using SVideo...for now!

Its all fine. Network (hardwired Cat5) is working with the other PC and the films and stuff look great on the TV...plus we can surf from the sofa.

My question is, as I have a TV card in my shuttle, can I use any software/hardware tweaks to enable hard disk recording of live TV? I dont want sky+ pause/rewind type stuff...just recording.

Oh, I am a Virgin Meida user and my Samsung cable box is about 6" from the PC.

I dont think the TV card is digital however!

Is there anything else fancy I can do with my PC being so close to my cable feed?

Any advice welcome with a big old fashioned hug`n`kiss

you should be able to record stuff and do the whole pause rewind type thing. If you're using it for nothing else other than to be a media centre then why don't you install some media centre OS such as Windows MCE or MythTV etc?

Cheers for the advice. I`m new to this whole media box type thing.

Now assuming I dont want to change the OS to XP MCE or MythTV, is there software I can use that`l take care of the PVR side of things?

Also, any idea how to connect the TV feed to the shuttle? Basically where does the cable come from, and go to?

Arcsoft TotalMedia might be worth a try- it has a pause/record live TV option. I got it off the newsgroups, but If you want a more legit copy, the Cyberlink Media Centre (looks identical to Totalmedia) with Remote Control and Software Pack is on 'Today Only' @ Scan for Ģ5.86.

Depending on what TV card you have it should have had some software with it. And generally you'd just run an arial connection to the TV card and then watch the tv from the shuttle ie Arial -> Shuttle -> TV

Thats the thing see, I have the original CD but no license key for the software (powercinema) . Is this a good app for the job?

Also, having cable, I would like to see all channels on the PC...is this simply achieved by using the aerial cable as described above?
