    Default mounting a plasma

hi, bought a 50" plasma and want it put on the wall of my new living room, only prob si all the brackets i am looking at look a bit flimsy.

the type i seem to keep coming across are

im just worried its not substantual allthough it does say it holds up to 75kg and my telly is only 53ish, guess i was just expecting something a bit more sturdy for my pride and joy!

any past experiance that people can share on mounting these beasts! ie fixings?

Looks fine to me - I'd be more concerned over what the wall you are fitting it to is made of (plasterboard for example?) and the fixings you use...

I have one of these holding my 42" LCD up... http://www.allcam.biz/catalog/produc...roducts_id=252

thats is my other worry, if it is plaster board i am thinking of some 8mm toggles its a spring loaded clip that when placed in wall spreads the weight over a much larger cross section. more favored over a plasterboard fixing anyway, any other ideas?

The wall plugs might be on the tad not strong enough
i would reccomend some heavier duty ones just to be on the safe side

if i was mounting it onto plasterboards id pay a pro to do it, either that or rearange the room and fix it to a solid wall. I have mine mounted with a very similar bracket to the one shown and its fine, when you are screwing the bolts in, the amount of effort it takes to do those final turns makes you more confident in its strength.

If it makes you feel any better you could goto a DIY store and get some more heavy duty bolts, my mate fitted one using bolts/plugs for mounting water tanks to walls.

Amazon is very cheap for brackets too.

If it is plaster board then you may be worthwhile screwing a piece of wood across 2 joists. Use heavy frame fixings for this so you know they wont shift.

Then mount the televisual on the board.

i mount heavy bits of kit on to plasterboard everyday at work so im preety confitent in the fixings i will choose my only real concern was the actual bracket being sufficient enough to take the load, just didnt seem like much, but if thats what everyones using then i shall get a couple and put them on the walls

Hah, saying that I recall mountng a 16u data cabinet on a plaster board wall once. We used 4 BandQ heavy duty plasterboard metal delys, and to the best of my knwledge its still on the wall today.

Quite impressive with all the kit inside, and the fact we did a few chinups on it to test

I'd say definitely make sure at least some of you screws go direct into the struts...

    Info Re: mounting a plasma

Well after moving last week I have finally got my plasma mounted on me chimney breast with a quality bracket and some of the easiest fixings for masonry I have found.

Heres a pic of the bracket (£64.99 inc next day delivery).

Heres a pic of the fixings I used (8 in total)

I think they are called "Thunderbolts" , just drill a 8mm hole in the brick and wind it in with a socket / wrench. Simple , straight forward and very strong

Pics to follow once room tidy

i use the thunderbolts to put up "to let" signs. and as for useing springtoggles. god no.. no offence m8.(50" plasmas not cheap and worth a bit more than a toggle) i have installed loads of plasmas. personal i would find joists and screw thought to em. if not lining up use a piece of 3/4 plywood and go into that. you only need enough to cover the bracket!
