Default Getting to alton towers without a car?

Just wondering if anyone can help, going to alton towers on 12th of this month, staying at the hotel and coming back on the 13th. I can drive but I need my car to be serviced so it might not be ready in time.

Just wondering what alternatives there are? I know virgin has a train from london to stoke-on-trent, I can get tickets for £25 each way. Just wondering if there are any cheaper means as this will cost an extra £100 for us? I am from the Colchester (Essex) area.

Any advice most appreciated, national rail seemed to be a lot more expensive than virgin trains.

    Cheers

If you get train then you have to get coach as well when you get there which is gay.
If you get an all inclusive ticket then I think you save a bit. As in train, coach and admittance ticket. Look on their web site for that.

If you drive its like £4 a day for parking and its not like you can just park elsewhere cos there is nothing else there... pfft

I already have 2 x 2-day priority passes and one night hotel booked so an all-in-one won't help Did look at them on the virgin site.

    Cheers though

I used to go there on the train. You need to go to Uttoxeter Train station and then there is a bus service straight from there to Alton Towers.
    All sweeping statements are wrong.

Cheers for all replies, Uttoxeter is £67.50 each way per person , could rent a car but not sure on what age you have to be, I am 18.

Will go down the bank and have a look at what option's best

    Theres always National coaches.

Central London to Stoke on Trent leaving 0100hrs arriving at 5.55hrs £47 or £39, thats for 2 persons, return I believe.

Worth a look, you could have a evening in town & have a kip on the way up there & a kip on the way back.

Theres other choices, maybe go from Cambridge, if you can get a lift?

EDIT: Looked into it mate, £24 return for 2 people!!! Unbelievable. Looked for coaches but couldn't find a site myself. Top man!

I've found the train for £64.90 Colchester to Uttoxeter return.

But looks like youve sorted it with the coach now fella.

Yes, cheers mate but think we will go coach as long as the trains aren't all on strike to get to the coach park :s
